“Open” Command Works Incorrectly When Double-Clicking Single Documents in PowerWeb

This issue was found in Meridian Update 2019-R2 after installing the Update 1 and was fixed in Meridian 2020.

This article is addressed to Meridian Administrators. End users can use the workaround mentioned in this article.

This issue occurs in any web browser. After double-clicking, opening the file, and selecting Start Quick Change or Start Change, the following behaviors might occur:

  • The document within the vault does not show the red icon indicating that it is locked in the vault for change. The document will remain unlocked within the vault.

  • The documents will be protected for editing. This affects any document type—such as .dwg, .dgn, .txt, and MS Office documents—for all users.

  • In MicroStation, the following error message appears:

“File is write protected, the it will be opened in Read-Only mode”.

  • In AutoCAD, the error message appears in the form of the following example:

“’C:\BC-Workspace\[UserID][FilePath]\FileName.dwg’ is currently in use or is read-only.”

The file will be opened as Read-Only.

  • For .txt and MS Office documents, the files are opened as read-only and will require that you save changes in a new file.

  • The issue occurs in any mode used in Meridian Application integration (Online, Remote, Off-line).

Solution

This issue was fixed in Meridian 2020.

To solve this issue in Meridian 2019:

  1. Ensure that Update 1 is correctly installed. You might need to reinstall Update 1.

  2. Install the following patch: "Patch 2019R2U1 (MPS-40033: [ENGINEERING] File is write protected error - Double click to open does not lock in LWS.DONE)Web.zip".

Workaround

If you haven’t installed the patch yet, you can do the following workaround. Choose one of the following options:

  • In a navigation view:

    1. Right-click the name of the document that you want to download.

    2. Point to Edit. Click Download Document.

  • In the Edit ribbon, in the Download group, on the Download Document menu, click Open.

The file is locked out within the vault, as expected. You can edit and save the document.
