Error “1722 There is a problem with this Windows Installer package”

Background

Meridian Enterprise depends on C runtime libraries from Microsoft that have traditionally been included with the Microsoft development tools that are used to make Meridian Enterprise. Accruent has traditionally included those libraries in the Meridian installation packages so that all dependent components can be installed by customers.

Microsoft now includes some of those libraries in the Windows 10 operating system. To support Windows 10 in the 2016 SP1 release, Accruent must now rely on customers to install C runtime updates on older Windows versions where Meridian will be installed. To streamline the update process, the Meridian installation packages will attempt to use the Windows Update feature to automatically install any necessary C runtime updates.

Description

This error can occur during Meridian installation if the Windows operating system does not have the appropriate updates installed and Windows Update is disabled on the computer. The installation package fails because the necessary updates cannot be installed automatically.

To prevent this error and to successfully install Meridian, the Windows Update feature should not be disabled on the computer where Meridian is being installed. The Windows update has numerous prerequisites that depend on the version of Windows. The prerequisites are described in Update for Universal C Runtime on the Microsoft support website online where the updates can also be downloaded from. Be sure that all prerequisites have been met for your operating system version before installing Meridian.
