Oracle Licensing Affecting AutoVue and JRE

If you use AutoVue for viewing documents, changes in the Oracle licensing might affect you.

To run AutoVue, you need to have two Oracle components:

  • AutoVue applet — a Java applet

  • Java Runtime Engine (JRE)

In Meridian 2018 and earlier, we provided the license for the AutoVue applet with your Meridian.

If you purchased the right to use the AutoVue applet with Meridian, this right does not expire. No additional fees are required for it.

When Meridian 2018 was released, Oracle provided the JRE free of charge. Oracle now requires a license fee to deploy the JRE.

The JRE is not included in the Meridian setup. To use it, you must purchase and download it from Oracle.

Note:
  • Java applets are not supported by HTML5 browsers (Chrome, Edge, Safari) because of security issues.

  • We recommend using PDFTron for viewing documents. You can use PDFTron to view original and rendered PDF files. To view original drawings and documents using PDFTron, they need to be rendered. The rendering and publishing functionality is available in Meridian by default. You don’t need to use the authoring tools to create renditions.
