Advanced Search

Meridian Explorer provides two types of property searches: advanced searches as described in this topic and simple searches as described in Search In Document Properties. Advanced searches let you specify not only the property and values that you want but also matching conditions, Boolean operators, or combinations of criteria. Advanced searching must be enabled by a System Administrator.

You define an advanced property search by specifying one or more properties that you want to search in and a value for each property that you want to search for. Each combination of a property name and its value are called a criterion. You can specify any number of criteria but you must specify at least one. Be default, the criteria are joined by the Boolean AND operator. You may change the operator for any criterion to OR. You may optionally combine the property search criteria with an tag ID to find only those items that are related to a specific tag. When you find the items that you are looking for, you can save the current search criteria as a view filter for later reuse.

The available search options are configured by a System Administrator and may not include all of the options described in the following task.

  • If you select a value from a list, the Equals operator is always used but if you type a value, the default operator that has been configured by the System Administrator is used. Since the value lists contain complete values (not keywords), this prevents unnecessary Contains searches in large repositories, which are slower than Equals searches.

    If the value that you type contains an asterisk (*) and the default operator is Equals, the Contains operator will be used instead so that the wildcard will be evaluated correctly.

  • Wildcard characters are supported only by the Wildcard and Not Wildcard operators.

  • If you find that you are getting duplicate search results, add the rootfolderID to your query. The rootfolderID has a unique value for each folder, and will help narrow your search results.

ClosedAdvanced Search on Document Properties

To perform an advanced search on document properties:

  1. In the ribbon menu, click Search and then in the ribbon, click Form Search.

    The available search options appear. By default, one or more search criteria with empty text boxes might be available. These are configured by a System Administrator.

  2. Click the advanced options icon Two right arrows.in the lower-left corner of the navigation pane.

  3. Choose one of the following options:

    • To use a default search property, type a search value in its text box.

    • To search in a different property:

      1. Click the Add Property icon A blue circle with a blue plus symbol in its center..

        The Edit Search Properties dialog box appears. The available properties are configured by a System Administrator.

      2. Select a different property from the list and click OK.

        The selected property is appended to the list of search properties.

      3. Type a search value in the new text box.

    • To change a search operator, click the current operator and select a different operator from the list that appears.

    • To change how criteria are joined, click the current Boolean operator and select a different operator from the list that appears.

  4. When you are finished specifying search criteria, click Search.

    The search results appear in the results pane.
