Create And Edit Scopes

Scopes limit access to elements in the user interface, such as commands or options in drop-down lists. Scopes are not used to control access to specific objects in the vault. If any scopes are defined in a vault, users must select one when opening the vault. Users may select only those scopes for which they have the Can Use privilege.

Scope Tabs

The following table gives brief descriptions of each tab in the Scope editing pane, and what you can configure on that tab.

Tab	Description
General	High-level information about the scope and the roles that can use the scope.
Command Filter	Commands available to the scope.
Toolbar	Commands available to the scope which are displayed in the toolbar. If you disable all of the commands that appear in a PowerWeb ribbon group, that group will be hidden from users of that scope.
Document Type Filter	Document types available to the scope.
Folder Type Filter	Folder types available to the scope.
Workflow Definition Filter	Workflow Definitions available to the scope.
Project Definition Filter	Project Definitions available to the scope.
Reference Type Filter	Reference types available to the scope.
Navigation View Filter	Navigation views available to the scope.
Report Filter	Reports available to the scope.

Procedures

To create or edit a scope:

Open the Meridian Enterprise Configurator.
Choose between two options:
- To create a scope, use one of the following methods:
  - Select New Scope from the Edit menu.
  - Click the New Scope button .
  - Right-click Scopes in the configuration tree in the left pane and choosing New Scope.
  The scope property pages appear in the right pane.
- To edit an existing scope:
  1. Expand Scopes in the configuration tree.
  2. Select the scope you want to edit.
  3. Click Edit in the lower-right corner of the screen.
    
    The scope becomes editable.
Type information on the General tab for the options described in the following table.
To manage a security role's access to this scope:
1. Click Privileges.
  
  This button appears at the bottom of the General tab.
2. Choose between two options:
  - To give access to the scope, select the check box in the Can Use row for a security role.
  - To deny access to the scope, clear the check box in the Can Use row for a security role.
3. Click OK.
On each of the tabs, select the items and commands that you want to be available to users of this scope.

Not all commands are available in scopes, particularly some of the managed change and Meridian Advanced Project Workflow Module commands. Also, access to the document type workflow transition commands and the Retire and Unretire commands cannot be removed from scopes.
Click Apply.

Scope general options
Option	Description
Display Name	The editable name of the scope definition as seen by users. Required.
Name	The permanent internal name of the scope definition. Required.
Root folder	The root folder that will be visible to users of this scope. Click the Select Folder icon to select an existing folder. Required.
Privileges	Select the Meridian roles that can use the current scope. If you disable all of the commands that appear in a PowerWeb ribbon group, that group will be hidden from users of that scope.
