Scopes

Meridian Enterprise manages a wide variety of documents and the information about them. This might seem excessive and daunting compared to the tasks that you regularly perform. Scopes are a way of limiting vault functionality and information to named sets that are easier to understand and use. You may select a scope that more closely meets your needs without experiencing information overload.

Scopes limit your ability to create or work with the following objects:

  • Commands

  • Document types

  • Folder types

  • Workflow types

  • Project types

  • Reference types

  • Navigation views

  • Reports

Scopes also limit some Meridian Enterprise functions:

  • Folder access is restricted to a folder and its sub-folders that are defined by the scope.

  • Searches are restricted to accessible folders.

Note:

You may not work with any other objects than those defined in a scope. If no scope provides the functionality or folder access that you need, select a different scope or consult a System Administrator.

For example, a vault used for managing facilities might define scopes for as-built documents, design projects, archived documents, or maintenance management. A vault used for managing AEC documents might define a different scope for each customer. And a vault used for manufacturing documents might define different scopes for standard parts, active projects, and inactive projects.
